A fifth generation Coloradoan, Hoss Port was introduced at an early age to hunting, fishing, surveying, livestock and agricultural operations through family businesses. Hoss gained ranching experience working on his father’s Colorado cattle ranch branding cattle, maintaining fences and equipment, managing ranch personnel, lease agreements and facilitating complex shipping schedules.

Following high school, Hoss attended Professional Guide School in Montana, becoming one of the most accomplished guide graduates and quickly developing a passion for the business of outdoor recreation. Already an accomplished rifleman, archer and fly-fisherman, Hoss became a fly-fishing guide for Hubbard’s Yellowstone Lodge; for a private ranch; on the Yellowstone River inside Yellowstone National Park and in the Bob Marshall Wilderness Area. He later guided domestic and international clients who shared a common love of open land, big game and the great outdoors on both archery and rifle, elk and deer hunts by horseback to remote spike camps along the west fork of the Madison River. He fine-tuned his knowledge of land, game and water resources and built a stellar reputation for honesty, integrity and professionalism. Gaining the trust and confidence of his clients to arrange and lead large game hunts paved the way for a smooth transition into the ranch real estate business where reputation is a ranch broker’s best asset.

In addition to guiding in Montana, Hoss currently guides big game hunts for his family-owned outfitting business in South Park as well guiding clients on other private ranches all over Colorado. He has personally traveled and hunted all over the United States from California to Maine, Texas to Alaska, and north to Canada. He has travelled to South Africa and Zimbabwe, filming exotic and dangerous game hunts for television.

Hoss has worked as a surveyor, an outfitter, and has owned and operated successful pipefitting and construction companies – acquiring extensive knowledge in mapping, building, mechanics, and client service. His first-hand experience with every aspect of business operations, land ownership and the western lifestyle – from personnel to livestock operations, land surveying, hunting and outfitting – make Hoss one of the most experienced ranch real estate Brokers to represent recreation and sporting properties in the western United States.

JACK KAVANAUGH

Jack Kavanaugh brings a lifelong love and knowledge of the lands and rivers of the west to Ranch Marketing Associates. An avid outdoorsman, fly fisherman and conservationist, he is knowledgeable in all aspects of ranching operations and recreational sporting properties.

Jack has brokered hundreds of millions of dollars of properties in the Rocky Mountain West as well as successfully managing and directing the marketing operations of a major Montana resort community. Many large working and recreational ranches in Montana, Wyoming and Colorado have been successfully marketed by Jack. He has worked with ranch sellers and buyers as well as conservation trusts. His ability to craft solutions to complex problems by bringing all parties together in negotiations and his dedication to serving his client’s needs during his 15-year ranch marketing career has earned him a sterling reputation in western ranch circles.

MATT JOHNSTON

Matt Johnston is a fourth generation Wyoming rancher with over thirty years in range management, livestock operations, agriculture production, habitat preservation, personal recruitment and supervision and much more. With many years of experience in Ranch and Resource Management, he’s highly respected in the industry and is a valuable asset to Ranch Marketing Associates and its clients.

A hallmark in the ranching industry, Johnston has enjoyed a successful career managing and operating several of the most prominent ranches for some of the most sophisticated ranch owner/entrepreneurs in the United States. His experience includes Operations Manager of the well-known 450,000-acre Padlock Ranch, General Manager of the 135,000-acre Wagonhound Ranch, and a Division Manager for the 75,000-acre Bard Ranch.

Successful Ranch and Resource Management involves the ability to find solutions to increase profitability and return on investment. Johnston possesses the skill and knowledge needed to recognize problems and areas of concern for today’s ranch owners – unraveling or piecing together the often confusing and incomplete information that comes from old ranching traditions, the agriculture industry, government bureaucracies, and the varying localized influences.

Matt has fostered outstanding working relationships with many local, state and federal officials, western agriculturists and research centers to enhance the quality of ranching and land preservation. John Hayter

John Hayter has a lifetime of experience in the land and ranch industry as he was born and raised to a long line of pioneering Texas ranchers. John began his career as a 6th generation rancher in 1997 as president of Slash J Ranch Enterprises, Inc. His responsibilities included ranch and wildlife manager for Wallace Creek and Lethco Ranches combined. Wallace Creek Ranch bred and supplied Corriente sport cattle; Lethco Ranch was a more traditional cow/calf operation. He quickly made a name for himself as his expertise and skill did not go unnoticed. His reputation for breeding high-quality sport cattle led to sales across a multi-state area. Soon, John began consulting other landowners regarding breeding sport cattle and wildlife management and then started entrepreneurial ventures with a wildlife consulting business.

In 2004 as his reputation and experience grew, John took on another role; that of a real estate broker specializing in ranch sales. John has extensive experience in water rights, mineral rights, wildlife management, range management, and marketing and sales of ranches ranging in size from a couple hundred acres to over 12,000 acres.

After many trips to the Rocky Mountains for ski vacations, he and his family decided to make the mountains their home. John moved his family to Colorado in 2006. At this time, due to his experience in conducting exhaustive land searches, he conceived the idea to combine his experience into a service for land brokers, developers, buyers, and sellers. He researched, developed, built, and launched a national multiple listing service specific to land – www.landbrokermls.com. John went on to successfully sell part of www.landbrokermls.com. In today’s market, effective Internet marketing is an absolute must for all sellers. John has the background, knowledge and experience to provide the highest exposure via web traffic, social media and print media for all his clients.

Having been raised on a ranch, it was natural for John to have a deep connection to the land and nature. As a boy, he enjoyed tromping across the mountains, hunting small game and fishing with his grandfather. Later on John became a passionate hunter and fisherman. John has hunted all over the West and taken numerous big game trophies with rifle, muzzleloader and bow from Texas to Alaska.

John holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Wildlife Management with a minor in Equine Science and is a licensed real estate broker in Texas, New Mexico and Colorado. He has numerous web design and development certifications and broad web programming experience. John is a member of the National Rifle Association and North American Hunting Club and founding Member Owner of The Land Broker Co-op.

Graham Goodfield

As a strong addition to the California ranch market and a six-generation Santa Barbaran, Graham Goodfield brings a wealth of resources and contacts to his new foray into ranch brokerage.

He owns and operates Los Padres Outfitters which provides backcountry horse and mule support to the US Forest Services and recreation outings to the visitors and locals of the Santa Barbara coast. Graham is an avid hunter and packer and knows the California, Los Padres land like few others. He brings a host of enthusiasm and knowledge to Ranch Marketing Associates.

Graham had a full football scholarship to Southeast Missouri State. He resides in Carpinteria with his wife and children.

HAPPY BROUSSARD

Edwin “Happy” Broussard has been finding solutions for farmers’ and ranchers’ real estate and insurance needs for over 35 years. An avid horseman, Happy has owned farms and ranches throughout the south and west in Louisiana, Mississippi, Colorado and Texas. He has owned commercial and registered cattle and horse ranches plus rice, sugar cane, and crawfish farms. In addition to farm and ranch experience, Happy has owned and managed a pine tree plantation, a commercial haying operation and has experience in oil, gas and uranium leases.

Originally from southern Louisiana’s Gulf Coast (Cajun Country), Happy attended University of Southwestern Louisiana and Louisiana State University where he played rugby and still holds an intramural track and field record. Happy managed a highly successful insurance agency for many years and served on the board of directors of the oldest bank in Louisiana for a number of years prior to his career in real estate.

Ann Abernethy
