Mt. Pisgah Lookout Retreat

Location

Access

Gravel road access to property is approximately 10 minutes to pavement.

Elevation, Topography, Vegetation

Elevation ranges from around 9500 foot down to about 8700 feet with ravines and boulder outcroppings interspersed with open grass meadows and a variety of pines, fir and spruce along with groves of aspens.

Improvements

The current owner had started building their retirement home 30 years ago and got as far as the foundation,  which is still in good shape, before life got in the way. It also has a septic already in place and would need to get re-inspected.

Hunting

Mt. Pisgah Lookout Retreat lies in GMU 581 which offers over-the-counter either sex elk tags for archery and bull tags for 2nd and 3rd rifle season. Should be able to draw 1st or 4th rifle just about every year.

With the quality of mule deer in the area be prepared to draw only every 2-3 years for all seasons. The property offers excellent opportunity for archery hunters and provides access to BLM that is very difficult to access.

This is also a great area for black bear hunting due to all the oak brush. Tags are available over-the-counter with caps for GMU 581.

Recreation

There are thousands of acres of public land neighboring the ranch to enjoy along with the 70 +/- acres. For the adventurous, one can even mountain bike into town. There is no shortage of things to see and do in the area from exploring old mining relics to trying your luck at the gambling tables.  For the real adventurous a short drive to Skagway reservoir and one can hit the trail down to the old Skagway Power plant. The Royal Gorge Bridge is within and hour drive and one can ride the narrow gauge train, enjoy fishing the Arkansas River, do some rafting or even take a helicopter tour. Phantom Canyon is also a great scenic drive that will take you along a narrow gauge train rail bed from Penrose to Cripple Creek.
