Saguache Creek Ranch is a quality commercial cow/calf operation headquartered on Saguache Creek located at the northern end of the San Luis Valley. The ranch has a combined acreage of leased and fee land totaling over 350,000 acres – allowing seven months of high yield grazing. Anchored by 1,200 acres of irrigated meadow which yield over 1,900 tons of native grass hay per year along with 15 improved pastures which currently run 800 pair. The combined forest and BLM permits, which range from 9,000 to 14,000 feet in some of the most beautiful back country in the state, allow for 850 animal units. The ranch typically markets 570 lb weaned calves along with any culls in January of each year. The ranch winters bred cows, calving in early April at the ranch’s 3,200 deeded-acre headquarters where there are over 20 flowing artesian wells providing 50-degree water for livestock during the colder months. Working corrals with modern hydraulic equipment allow for sorting and working over 1,000 head at a time. Improvements include an updated owner’s home, near new foreman’s home, recently remodeled caretaker’s house, heated shop, equipment storage buildings, barns and adequate calving facilities. Saguache Creek Ranch has a year-round elk population complete with land owner permits, along with deer, antelope, water fowl, and other wildlife.
