Set along nine miles of the Cheyenne River in the Thunder Basin National Grasslands is the Fiddleback Ranch, an 890 A.U. operating ranch plus bulls and horses. A year-round grass ranch consisting of over 4,267 deeded acres together with state, federal and private leases of over 50,000 acres situated on a variety of terrain from river bottom and rolling grasslands with shelter along the many breaks and bluffs. The ranch has five tributary creeks and has completed a several year water line project that provides large rubber tanks in strategic areas to maximize grass. The ranch has two houses and a cabin, large heated shop and storage building, barn, several additional sheds and two sets of working corrals with two certified scales. Fiddleback Ranch is a superb grass ranch with extensive wildlife including mule and whitetail deer, antelope, elk, wild turkey and a host of other small game.
Location and Area:
Fiddleback Ranch is located in the Thunder Basin National Grasslands about 60 miles northeast of Douglas and 54 miles southwest of Newcastle, Wyoming. The west end of the ranch is located five miles east of Highway 59 at mile marker 49 via forest service road 942. The ranch runs twenty one miles east, is approximately four to six miles wide and is served by maintained gravel roads.Douglas, with a population of approximately 6,000 residents, offers a variety of modern amenities and conveniences including easy access to one of the Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in the United States – Memorial Hospital of Converse County. Education facilities include elementary, junior high and high schools as well as a two-year college, Eastern Wyoming College.
Known as the Western Gateway to The Black Hills, with a population of 3,200, the small town of Newcastle is northeast of the ranch and is big enough in size to have many of the same amenities as other larger cities yet still maintains its small-town, rural charm and convenience to the ranch. The town has three schools, an aquatic center, an active chamber of commerce and retail association which provide ample support for area businesses as well as necessities such as Weston County Health Services, Newcastle’s local hospital which provides emergency care and basic inpatient hospital services.
Wyoming has some of the most favorable tax and asset protection laws in the nation. With no individual state income tax, business income tax or inheritance tax, assets are insulated in ways so that wealth can grow at a much faster rate than most other states in the country.
